A fair and reasonable return policy builds trust, loyalty, and repeat business. So, what makes a good return policy?

A return policy should be clear and simple to understand. The potential customer will not stick around if they don’t immediately understand a store’s return policy. A retailer with an unclear policy should not expect a potential customer to have enough trust to make a purchase.

A good return policy should answer the following questions:

Do you accept returns?

Is there a time limit?

Under what condition will you not accept a return (package opened, worn, etc)?

What does the customer need to do to start the return process?

Where do they ship the return?

Is a RMA required? RMA stands for Returned Merchandise (or materials) Authorization and is used by many hardware companies to identify a transaction.

Who pays for the product to be shipped back? Under what conditions will you pay for the shipping?

Will you refund the customer’s money in the same way they paid for it?

Is there a restocking fee?
